This guide will walk you through the steps to restart your school internet router (UDM) using its built-in display. Restarting your router can help resolve connectivity issues or internet outages. This should only be done at the direction of the IT team. Follow these simple steps to navigate the UDM’s display and perform a restart.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Locate the Display on Your UDM
Your UniFi Dream Machine has a small touchscreen display on the front of the device. This is where you’ll navigate to restart the router.
Tap the screen to wake it up if needed.
Access the Settings Menu
On the display, you’ll see the main dashboard showing network status or other information.
Swipe left or right (depending on your model) to find the Settings icon. It looks like a gear.
Tap the Settings icon to enter the settings menu.

Navigate to the Restart Option
In the settings menu, scroll or swipe to locate the Restart option. This may be listed under a section like “System” or “Device Management.”
Tap Restart to select it.
Confirm the Restart
A confirmation prompt may appear asking if you’re sure you want to restart the device. Tap Confirm or Yes to proceed.
The router will begin the restart process, which may take a minute or two. The display may go blank temporarily, and your network will be briefly offline.
Wait for the Router to Reboot
Once the restart is complete, the display will show the main dashboard again, and your network should reconnect. This process can take up to 5 minutes.
If the router doesn’t restart properly or you encounter issues, contact the helpdesk for assistance.
