There are three main ways to identify an IOS device: Device Name, Serial Number, and Wifi( MAC) Address. This guide will show you where to find this information on iPads and iPhones.
First, open the Settings app.
Next, navigate to General > About.
Under the About page, you will find these 3 items listed.
1. Device Name - The device name should match whoever is using the device. If it doesn't, email the Helpdesk.
2. Serial Number - The serial number is the definitive way to identify an device. It never changes and can be found on the About page, but is also engraved on the back of each device* (useful if the device is locked or won't turn on)
3. Wi-Fi Address (also known as a MAC address) - This is how we identify devices when they are connected to the networks. This address is needed when whitelisting devices on the web filter or otherwise adjusting their filter access.
*Serial numbers are also engraved on the back of each device. Note the difference between the model number and serial number.
